Valeria Márquez Murdered During Live Video to Fans

A Mexican influencer was murdered by a motorbike-riding gunman pretending to deliver a gift as she was livestreaming to her tens of thousands of social media followers, police said.


Valeria Marquez, 23, was gunned down in her Blossom the Beauty Lounge salon in Jalisco, Mexico, on Tuesday.


Valeria Márquez was streaming from the salon in the Santa María shopping plaza, Jalisco, when a man arrived and shot her before fleeing, the paper said.


Officials are investigating the death but are yet to publicly name the victim, noting she had "an active presence and influence on social media."


Newsweek reached out to Jalisco's security secretary and the prosecutor's office via email for comment outside of regular working hours on Wednesday.
